Strengthening Families is a League-wide initiative with a mission to provide programs that address areas such as; parenting, health and well-being, early childhood intervention and education, with an emphasis on fighting childhood obesity and the importance of proper nutrition in children. The Junior League of Gainesville – Hall County has several programs to help meet Strengthening Families mission.
Feeding our Future: Through Feeding Our Future, the League is committed to help alleviate child hunger in Gainesville-Hall County by providing chronically hungry children and their households with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food through a monthly food box distribution. The Feeding Our Future program has grown to serve approximately 100 families within multiple schools in the Gainesville City and Hall County School Districts.
Kids in the Kitchen: Kids in the Kitchen is supported by The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. and its member Leagues, to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. KITK visits Hall County area schools and performs an interactive skit for the children where they learn about healthy food choices, exercise, and proper sleep. KITK was also instrumental in beginning the Healthy Habits Expo in its inaugural year.
Healthy Habits Expo: Healthy Habits is a family-friendly, community-wide event. Professionals from the fields of healthcare, nutrition, mental health, exercise physiology, sports, and more participate as exhibitors and educators. The Expo provides many resources and opportunities for children and their families to learn about preventing childhood obesity and maintaining a happy, healthy lifestyle.
